Geomarine is passionate about engineering and providing local engineering skills to help sustain the future demands for civil and geotechnical

engineering in the Channels Islands.

Engineers use any available knowledge to solve problems and in so doing shape the world by turning ideas into reality. Whilst engineering

cannot compete with finance in the volumes of jobs available in Guernsey, it is able to provide a fascinating career to the few with the tenacity to

succeed in it. We would like to encourage those with the required academic ability and drive, in the hope that they will bring skills back home at

some point in their career, whether straight from university or after having gained experience in larger markets and organisations.

To that end, Geomarine is offering two levels of bursary intended to set up students with sufficient IT and text books. We will also commit

further support, advice and experience as detailed below:

Post 16 Bursary:

This Bursary award is to support a student who has shown interest in a career in an Engineering and who will be studying AS/A levels or Btec Level 3 with a view to proceed to a related degree course. Who can apply: Prospective 1st Year A level or Btec level 3 students intending on continuing to Degree level studies. Value: A single payment of £500.00 to be spent on IT and £100 for textbooks per annum for 2 years. Geomarine will also commit to assisting with arranging or facilitating work experience and mentoring advice to help the student make further career decisions.

Judging Criteria and Timings

May – Candidates who are currently in Year 11 should write a short letter to Jenny Giles at Geomarine. The letter should be titled “Geomarine Post 16 Bursary”. It should state their career interests, GCSEs being taken and intended AS/A levels/or Btec course. This should arrive with Geomarine by 31st May 2017.

September – Short listed Students will be invited for an interview. Proof of grades achieved and acceptance on courses will be required.

Degree Bursary:

This Bursary award is to support a student who has taken Alevels or equivalent in subjects relevant to a career in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering and who has subsequently been accepted on a degree accredited by a relevant institution. Who can apply: Final Year A-level or Btec Level 3 students on receipt of a university place.

Value: A single payment of £500.00 to be spent on IT and £225 for textbooks per annum for 4 years.

Geomarine will also commit to providing personal connections within the industry, assisting with arranging or facilitating work experience and mentoring advice to help the student make further career decisions.

Judging Criteria and Timings

“Geomarine Degree Bursary”. It should state their career aspirations, A levels being taken and intended Degree course. This should arrive with

Geomarine by 31st May 2017.

September – Short listed Students will be invited for an interview. Proof of grades achieved and acceptance on courses will be required
